History

Historical Context

South Korea’s archery dominance began with multiple Olympic titles in the 1980s—Kim Soo-nyung won individual gold in 1988 and team golds through 2000—and continued with Kim Kyung-wook’s women’s individual gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games, where 64 archers competed. India’s Kumkum Mohod’s 6-5 shoot-off win over Oh Yejin at the 2026 Asian Games, securing a 2028 Olympic quota, marks the nation’s first breakthrough against that legacy.
