She broke down emotionally at a September 30 rally, with supporter Vijay comforting her.
BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan posted on X that the DMK campaign uses indecent language to chase votes.

History

Historical Context

In 1995, Tamil Nadu enacted the Karunanidhi Women’s Protection Act, criminalizing harassment of women and imposing up to three years imprisonment. The law prescribed a maximum fine of INR10,000 and was championed by former chief minister M. Karunanidhi, who also led the DMK. Today's dispute mirrors that legacy as TVK leader C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and BJP ally Vanathi Srinivasan invoke the act against DMK president M.K. Stalin’s alleged body-shaming of SC candidate P. Sathyabama. If the Election Commission enforces the 1995 provisions, Tamil Nadu’s 2026 by-elections could set a precedent for penalizing gender-based political insults nationwide.
