History

Historical Context

In 1992, a massive Delhi University student strike erupted into violent campus clashes, prompting the Indian government to enact stricter university security statutes. The Ministry of Human Resource Development recorded 1,200 arrests that year, and the University Grants Commission allocated an additional INR5 crore for campus policing. Today, Lovely Professional University faces similar turmoil as nine individuals, including influencer Farhat Dev with 21,000 Instagram followers, were detained under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The historic precedent warns that contemporary campus protests will likely trigger intensified legal actions, shaping India's higher-education governance for years.
