History

Historical Context

The 1995 Mafia Commission Trial in New York, led by U.S. Attorney Rudy Giuliani, secured 19 convictions of mob leaders, crippling organized extortion. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents seized $2.5 million in cash and assets, while the Gambino family lost $15 million in illegal revenue. Similarly, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s 2025 operation arrested five Indian-origin men, including Sanket Singla, for extortion, arson, and cocaine trafficking targeting Langley and Surrey dealerships. These coordinated crackdowns signal that cross-border law-enforcement agencies will intensify surveillance of transnational crime rings, prompting stricter oversight of auto-industry security.
