Incident Overview
Police say a 37-year-old man from Mississippi Mills was discovered dead inside a burning vehicle that was found in a wooded area off Ramsay Concession 12. The fire-scene investigation, conducted by the Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, identified the victim as Colin Campbell.
Arrest and Charges
The OPP announced that a 33-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, both residents of Arnprior, were apprehended in Regina. After their arrest, the pair appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth and were each charged with second-degree murder and “indignity to a dead body,” the latter referring to unlawful interference with human remains.
Investigation Details
The homicide inquiry was launched after first responders located the vehicle fire in early September. OPP investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set and that the two Arnprior suspects were linked to the scene through forensic and surveillance evidence. The investigation remains under the jurisdiction of the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit.
Legal Proceedings
Following their court appearance, the accused were ordered to remain in custody pending further judicial steps. The charges carry significant penalties under Ontario law, reflecting the seriousness of both the homicide and the alleged mishandling of the victim’s remains. The case continues to be monitored by provincial authorities as it moves through the criminal justice system.
