History

Historical Context

In 2009, former rugby league star Steve Prescott launched a nationwide Motor Neurone Disease fundraising tour, ultimately delivering £1.5 million to the MNDA. The Rugby Football League partnered, allocating 10 % of 2010 Super League ticket sales, while Old Trafford hosted a charity match that attracted 45,000 spectators. Today, Sir Kevin Sinfield mirrors Prescott’s model, running a seven-day ultramarathon across all 12 Super League venues, raising over £1 million for MND. The cumulative £13 million raised since 2020 positions the sport as a leading catalyst for MND research funding, prompting increased governmental health grants.
