History

Historical Context

The 2004 Boston Red Sox, managed by Terry Francona, broke an 86-year championship drought by rallying from a 3-0 ALCS deficit; pitcher Derek Lowe, who posted a 3-0 record and 1.86 ERA in the postseason, was a key starter in the World Series. The franchise’s willingness to adjust lineups for health echoes the Yankees’ 2024 exclusion of Aaron Judge due to a calf strain.
