History

Historical Context

In 2012 the Washington Redskins drafted Heisman-trophy winner Robert Griffin III, the NFL’s first 1990s-born starter and the first player to wear a Roman numeral on his jersey, signing a four-year, $21.1 million contract. His rookie breakout ended with a torn ACL in the January 2013 playoff loss, an injury that began his decline and led the Redskins to eventually replace him with Kirk Cousins.
