History

Historical Context

In November 1993 England beat San Marino 7-1 in a World Cup qualifier at Bologna, a record margin that came despite the team later missing the 1994 World Cup and prompting Graham Taylor’s resignation and Terry Venables’s appointment. The 7-0 Nations League demolition of Croatia in 2023 mirrors that historic dominance and highlights England’s continued ability to produce large-margin wins in competitive fixtures.
