Tax-free low-income pensions
- Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced at the Labour Party conference in September that the state-pension triple lock will be replaced by a double-lock from 2030.
- The government also said low-income pensioners will not pay income tax during this Parliament.
- The Institute for Fiscal Studies estimates state-pension spending would drop about £9 bn versus the triple lock.
- OBR forecasts £6 bn savings by 2040, with a petition for age 65 gathering 10,000 signatures.
