Story summary

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders cut cornerbacks Jah Jah Boyd, Justin Eaglin and Paul Omodia from the roster.
The dismissals came after Colorado’s 41-7 loss to Northwestern on Sept. 19, 2026.
Sanders said the players were removed for conduct detrimental to the team because they laughed on the way out.
The cuts leave Colorado with three fewer cornerbacks before its game against No. 12 Texas Tech.

History

Historical Context

Lou Holtz, Notre Dame’s strict disciplinarian who led the Irish to a 12-0 national-championship season in 1988, famously dismissed two defensive backs after the 38-0 loss to Michigan in 1995, citing locker-room misconduct. His punitive approach set a precedent that modern coaches, such as Deion Sanders at Colorado, continue to use, sparking media scrutiny and shaping recruiting strategies.
