History

Historical Context

In 1995 India strengthened road safety with the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, raising hit-and-run penalties to up to INR5,000 and two years’ imprisonment. That same year the UK Parliament enacted the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act, consolidating rules for commercial vehicle operators, reflecting a broader push for stricter transport regulation. Delhi Police’s recent arrest of Navleen Kaur demonstrates the Indian law’s continuing enforcement.
