Croatian Ultras Display

Adult Croatian football supporters displayed far-right, Nazi-adjacent behavior during the England match.

Human rights groups warned the symbols could normalize hate ideology in broader Croatian society.
Local authorities were criticized for insufficient measures to curb extremist displays in the stadium.

History

Historical Context

The Independent State of Croatia, created on 10 April 1941 as a Nazi-German and Italian puppet under Ante Pavelic, carried out a genocide that killed about 300,000 Serbs, Jews and Roma. Decades later, ultras at the 2024 England-Croatia Euro qualifier displayed Ustaše-style white-supremacy symbols, prompting UEFA and human-rights groups to condemn the revival of the NDH’s hateful legacy.
