History

Historical Context

When UFC 1 debuted in Denver on 12 November 1993, co-creators Rorion Gracie and Art Davie staged an eight-fighter, no-rules tournament in a newly-designed octagon, awarding the winner $50,000. The event’s televised shock value propelled Brazilian jiu-jitsu worldwide and established a template that still shapes landmark cards such as UFC 332’s women’s flyweight title bout.
