History

Historical Context

In 1998 the NFL instituted a hard trade-deadline on November 28, forcing teams to complete player moves before the final regular-season week. That deadline produced 12 league-wide trades, including the New England Patriots acquiring wide receiver Terry Glenn for a 1999 third-round pick. Today, the Arizona Cardinals’ hesitation to move rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. mirrors those 1998 deadline dynamics, as Adam Schefter reports Patriots and Washington Commanders eye the prospect before the Nov. 10 cut-off. The precedent shows that deadline-season negotiations can reshape rosters, prompting clubs to weigh immediate need against long-term value in upcoming seasons.
