Austin Wells hit a double breaking Drew Rasmussen’s no-hit bid, then was tagged out at third in a 1-0 loss.
Drew Rasmussen threw eight shutout innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out ten.
Third-base coach Luis Rojas raised a stop sign, which Wells missed before rounding second.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wells’ baserunning was “obviously not a good decision.”

Summary

Ryan Weathers Added

Ryan Weathers joined the Yankees’ ALDS roster after recovering from a left forearm flexor strain.
Manager Aaron Boone said Weathers could play a massive role as a left-handed reliever.
The Yankees cut veteran utilityman Amed Rosario to make room for the extra left-handed arm.
Boone wants to avoid overworking Weathers, hoping Weathers can pitch multiple innings with one-day rest after Games 1, 2, 4.

History

Historical Context

After the Yankees returned to the postseason in 1995—their first appearance since 1981—they squandered a 2-0 series lead and lost the ALDS to the Seattle Mariners 3-2, a comeback that highlighted bullpen decisions. Manager Aaron Boone’s recent promotion of left-hander Ryan Weathers and cut of Amed Rosario echo those 1995 adjustments as New York seeks similar turnaround.
