History

Historical Context

In October 1973 the United States launched Operation Nickel Grass, air-lifting roughly 23,000 tons of weapons to Israel and deploying about 2,500 troops to halt Egyptian and Syrian advances. The current deployment of the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit echoes that rapid force-projection, underscoring a long-standing U.S. pattern of bolstering Israel against regional threats.
