History

Historical Context

In 2011, the NFL instituted a revised concussion protocol after Tom Brady’s season-ending head injury sparked league-wide safety reforms for players. The NFL and NFLPA agreed to a $1 billion settlement in 2013, compensating over 4,500 former players for brain-injury claims medical. Today's Rams comeback over the Eagles and Lamar Jackson’s ankle sprain echo past safety concerns, as teams now weigh star quarterbacks’ health against urgency. Consequently, franchises increasingly embed injury clauses and cap-flexible contracts, ensuring roster stability while protecting financial exposure from future quarterback setbacks.
