History

Historical Context

When Beijing hosted the XI Asian Games from 22 September to 7 October 1990, China became the first nation to exceed 100 gold medals and 300 total medals, winning about 60 % of the golds. That breakthrough launched China’s rise as a regional sporting power, a trajectory that continues with its dominance at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
