Apple reengineered the interior, miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to cut chassis weight.
The 14-inch and 16-inch models will add touchscreen capability to a MacBook.

The laptops will ship with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and macOS 27.2 (Golden Gate).

Summary

Ternus Drives Design

CEO John Ternus is steering Apple toward a design-first product strategy.
Ternus reorganized design teams to report directly to him, accelerating redesign efforts.
The upcoming MacBook Pro will keep current M5 chips, skipping the planned M7 generation.
Apple will launch an OLED iPad mini 8 the same month, expanding OLED across devices.
Analysts say the design-centric rollout signals Ternus prioritizes aesthetics over raw performance gains.

History

Historical Context

Apple’s 2007 iPhone launch, announced by Steve Jobs on Jan 9 and engineered by Jony Ive’s team, introduced multi-touch and a design-first ethos that reshaped smartphones. With over three billion units sold by July 2025, that approach later drove the 2020 iPhone 12’s OLED screens and now underlies the MacBook Pro’s OLED touchscreen major redesign.
