History

Historical Context

In 1994, Robert Evans published the memoir *The Kid Stays in the Picture*, openly recounting his hidden liaison while heading Paramount Pictures. The book sold more than 500,000 copies, and the New York Times highlighted the scandal, noting a 30 percent surge in memoir sales that year. Like Evans’s revelation, Michael Douglas’s 2026 memoir discloses a romance with Kathleen Turner that began on the 1984 set of *Romancing the Stone* in Mexico. The parallel underscores how celebrity memoirs can rewrite Hollywood narratives, prompting studios and tabloids to anticipate renewed scrutiny of past productions.
