History

Historical Context

Manchester City Women entered the FA WSL in 2014 after a controversial direct-entry decision, and within two seasons captured their first league title in 2016, ending Arsenal’s long-standing dominance. That breakthrough established City as a perennial contender, so their continued strong form, echoing the 2018-19 surge, reinforces the club’s ongoing challenge to Arsenal’s legacy.
