Story summary

Microsoft says Windows 11 26H2 contains an AC-3 audio decoding bug that can crash applications.
The same bug exists in Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 because they share the same code branch.
Legacy games, media players and productivity apps using the built-in decoder are prone to crashes.
Microsoft advises uninstalling the update because no mitigation exists and no fix timeline is set.
Microsoft traced the issue to the September 22 preview update and says a future resolution is in development.
