History

Historical Context

On April 20, 1999, seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 13 students and a teacher at Columbine High School, sparking nationwide security upgrades and zero-tolerance policies. The massacre inspired more than 70 copycat shootings through June 2025 and cemented a national push for stricter school security. The 2026 Muncie police shooting revives those longstanding debates over school-police coordination.
