Core Event
The Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) report from IIT Roorkee shows 10,107 women qualified for JEE Advanced 2026, crossing the 10,000 mark for the first time in six years. The women’s qualification rate rose to 23.4 %, up from 21.7 % in 2025, while women made up 23 % of registrations (43,112 candidates).
Background & Context
JEE Advanced selects candidates for undergraduate programmes at the IITs after JEE Main narrows the pool to the top 2.5 lakh. IITs reserve a portion of seats for women, targeting at least one-fifth of new undergraduate seats to be female.

Official Statements & Responses
The JIC report notes that qualification criteria were relaxed to ensure at least twice as many qualifiers as seats in each category. Women-only seats total 3,814, and women are considered for these before any gender-neutral allocation. Increases in SC and ST qualifiers (?27 % each) outpaced the overall rise in qualifiers (4.6 %).
Why It Matters / Impact
The higher qualification rate shows progress toward gender parity, yet the female share of IIT seats stayed near 20 %. More women meet the standards, but limited gender-neutral seats restrict their representation among top admissions. Gains for SC, ST and EWS contrast with modest declines for general-category and OBC-NCL candidates.
What’s Next
JEE Main 2027 is slated for January 22 (with additional dates on the 23rd, 24th, 28th, 29th, and 30th). Results will set eligibility for the next JEE Advanced, where the impact of the 2026 women’s performance on seat-allocation policies will be closely monitored.
