Historical Context

When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh formed the National Knowledge Commission on 13 June 2005, it recommended twenty new Indian Institutes of Information Technology and earmarked Rs 1,000 crore for them. Karnataka secured a Bangalore campus, opening its first IIIT in 2009. That state-level tech-skill push now underpins Karnataka’s Rs 50,000 crore AI curriculum drive and the Negilu Yogi farmer-export training.
