History

Historical Context

After the 1906 White Sox—dubbed the “Hitless Wonders” for a league-worst .230 average—engineered a six-game upset of the 116-win Cubs, propelled by Ed Walsh’s 12-strikeout game and a 19-game winning streak, the franchise endured a 46-year title drought before its 2005 World Series. In the 2024 ALDS, the Sox again broke a 21-year series-win gap, echoing their historic reliance on unconventional pitching.
