650 Drones Launched

Ukrainian drones struck the Moscow region overnight on Oct 6 2026, killing two people and hitting the Volodarsk oil depot.
The attack shattered dozens of homes, injured seven civilians and underscored the hardship faced by ordinary residents in the region.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said about 650 Ukrainian drones were launched toward the city.
Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed two deaths and seven injuries among civilians.

Historical Context

In 2007 Georgia bought about 40 Israeli-made Elbit Hermes-450 UAVs and began surveillance over Abkhazia. Between March and May 2008 Russian jets shot down several drones, notably the April 20 shootdown that the IIFFMCG called “the first part of the prelude to the war,” leading to the August Russo-Georgian conflict. The episode proved unmanned strikes could pressure Russia.
