History

Historical Context

Amazon’s inaugural Prime Day in 2015, held July 15, sparked a new era of timed e-commerce flash sales. That event generated $1.5 billion in sales, with 30 percent of purchases made by first-time Prime members. Today, Amazon repeats the model during its Oct 6-7 Prime Big Deal Days, slashing Hisense’s 100-inch U7SG TV price by $2,000 and cutting Boom speaker prices by up to $50. The precedent shows retailers can drive rapid inventory turnover and boost Prime enrollment, while consumers expect deep discounts on high-end electronics.
