Incident at Speedway Gas Station
Police responded around 8:45 p.m. to reports of gunfire at the Speedway gas station on the 16,000 block of West 78th Street, located just down the road from Eden Prairie High School. Eden Prairie police confirmed that no one was injured and that four individuals were detained in connection with the incident. Law enforcement officials said the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier Homecoming Shooting
The gas-station shooting occurred days after a separate shooting during Eden Prairie’s homecoming football game. That earlier incident, which took place on Friday, left two teenagers injured in the high school’s parking lot. Police noted that neither of the injured students attended Eden Prairie Schools. Prior to the shooting, a large altercation broke out on the west side of Aerie Stadium, where the game was being played, and some participants were removed from the stadium grounds.
Police Investigation and Reported Motive
Eden Prairie police indicated that three independent law-enforcement sources linked the recent gas-station shooting to Somali-gang activity. The same sources described the earlier homecoming shooting as “apparent gang-related.” Authorities have not released the identities of the detained individuals or detailed the specific charges pending against them.
Community Response
Following the Monday-night gunfire, the neighboring city of Edina convened a town-hall-style meeting to discuss rising gang-related violence. Local leaders and residents expressed frustration and called for coordinated solutions to curb the recent spate of shootings in the area. The meeting underscored growing concern among suburban communities about the impact of gang activity on public safety.
