History

Historical Context

In September 2017 Donald Trump called mainstream outlets “the enemy of the people,” a phrase he tweeted 36 times through October 2019. His attacks followed a 2016 campaign that earned record free media coverage and a 2018 Media Research Center study showing 92% of coverage was negative. Today he again targets Fox News, CNN, Politico and MSNBC, recalling the Senate’s August 2018 rebuke.
