By Drooid · · How we work

Personal Account of the October 7, 2023 Attack

In a June 2026 interview with France 24, Shoshan Haran—an agronomist and founder of the NGO Fair Planet—recalled the Hamas assault on Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7, 2023. She said the community had close ties with Gaza, noting that many residents drove sick children from the enclave to Israeli hospitals. Haran described her own capture, stating she refused to “show weakness” to her captors and acted as a liaison between her family and Hamas militants.

Captivity and Release Timeline

Haran and three relatives were held for 50 days in Gaza. She was released on a date scheduled for November 25, 2023, after which she learned that her husband Avshalom and her sister had been killed on October 7, 2023. Haran also mentioned that her son-in-law Tal remained detained for 505 days in Gaza tunnels.

Haran’s Statements on the Conflict

Haran framed the fighting as a conventional war, rejecting accusations that Israel’s actions constitute genocide. She argued that the genocide claim is unfounded and emphasized the cruelty of the ongoing hostilities. Her remarks position the conflict as a “very cruel war” rather than a campaign of systematic extermination.
