History

Historical Context

In September 1999 the United States, captained by Ben Crenshaw, erased a 10-point Europe lead at The Country Club in Brookline to win 14½–13½, the largest final-day comeback in Ryder Cup history. The dramatic turnaround and Crenshaw’s bold picks of rising stars such as Tiger Woods reshaped captain-selection thinking. That legacy frames Jim Furyk’s 2027 captaincy, as he seeks a similar revival.
