History

Historical Context

In 1990, goalkeeper Peter Shilton secured England’s long-standing appearance record with his 125th cap, cementing a benchmark for future internationals. Shilton, who debuted in 1970, amassed 125 caps over 20 years, surpassing Bobby Moore’s previous 108-cap tally by 17. Harry Kane’s 90th and 91st goals and his tie of Shilton’s cap total echo that historic milestone, as England chase a top-two Nations League finish. If Kane eclipses the record against Croatia at Wembley on Nov. 12, England may rewrite the nation’s longevity standards and inspire a new generation.
