History

Historical Context

Saudi Arabia’s 2015 launch of a nine-state coalition—backed by the UAE and Qatar—began a massive air campaign that flew about 5,000 sorties and left the UN estimating 3,200 civilian deaths, sparking a humanitarian disaster. The October 5-6 2026 Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities repeat the retaliatory pattern established during that 2015 escalation.
