History

Historical Context

The 1995 MLB postseason marked the first playoffs under the new three-division, wild-card format introduced after the 1994-95 strike. The Atlanta Braves, who posted a 90-54 record, defeated the Cleveland Indians—who had not appeared in a World Series since 1954—in six games, delivering Atlanta its first championship and making the franchise the only team to win titles in three different cities.
