History

Historical Context

In 1998 the Padres, managed by Bruce Bochy and anchored by ace Kevin Brown, recorded a franchise-record 98 wins, swept the NLDS and advanced to the World Series, showcasing the impact of deep pitching staff. That blueprint of postseason pitching depth reappeared in later matchups, including the 2022 NLDS upset of the Dodgers and the 2026 NLDS, underscoring its lasting influence.
