History

Historical Context

Amazon launched its first Prime Day on July 15 2015, a two-day sales event that generated roughly $0.7 billion in revenue. Jeff Bezos promoted the deal, offering 20 % off Apple iPhone 6s and a $50 discount on Best Buy’s TV bundles. Today’s October Prime Big Deal Days mirrors that model, with Amazon US pricing AirPods Pro 3 at $179, Walmart matching the discount, and Best Buy listing identical offers. The precedent shows how large-scale e-commerce discounts reshape consumer expectations, prompting Apple to rely on seasonal price cuts to sustain sales momentum.
