History

Historical Context

In 1999 NATO launched Operation Allied Force, bombing Yugoslavia from 24 March to 10 June and flying 26,095 sorties to stop ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. The campaign depended on U.S. F-16s and multilateral logistics, establishing a template for large-scale air power. Russia’s October 2023 missile and drone barrage on Kyiv follows that same air-campaign model.
