History

Historical Context

The April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols killed 168 people and produced the first major U.S. domestic-terrorism convictions, with Nichols sentenced to life without parole. That precedent now guides federal prosecutors as they thwart plots like Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud’s planned attack on the Mall of America.
