History

Historical Context

Flag football began in the early 1940s as a game. To address concussion concerns, the NFL partnered with the NFHS in 2019, allocating $2 million for coach grants that produced 1,200 certified instructors by 2021. In 2026 the Denver Broncos and Colorado High School Coaches Association honor ten flag-football mentors weekly as sport moves toward its 2028 Olympic debut and a 15 percent enrollment rise by 2030.
