History

Historical Context

In 1965 the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series on Sandy Koufax’s Game 7 shutout, a hallmark of the club’s pitcher-first identity forged after MLB widened the strike zone in 1963, which cut league batting average to .245. That legacy endures, as the 2024 NLCS sees veteran starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto deliver a decisive, low-run performance for the Dodgers.
