History

Historical Context

In 2006 the BCCI named former Test star Dilip Vengsarkar chief selector, ending the long-standing zonal system. He also chaired the Talent Resource Development Wing launched in 2002, which uncovered players such as MS Dhoni. Following the Lodha Committee’s 2016 mandate to replace zonal panels with a five-member national committee, former internationals Parthiv Patel and VVS Laxman now compete for the vacancy.
