BJP Defends Omitted Entries

The Election Commission of India launched a special enrolment drive on 15 October 2026 to allow voters omitted from the Special Intensive Revision register to file Form 6.
The BJP stresses that the roughly 13 crore omitted entries are largely dead, shifted, duplicate or otherwise untraceable, not legitimate deletions.
Chief electoral officers in the 20 states and union territories where SIR is complete were told to accept ordinary Form 6 applications without the extra SIR declaration.

Historical Context

In 2002 the Election Commission of India overhauled the electoral roll, adding roughly 1.5 crore names, deleting about 1.2 crore and raising registered voters by 7 %. Guided by a Supreme Court directive, the revision sparked later disputes. On 15 October 2026 Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi launched a Form 6 enrolment drive, while the BJP claims 13 crore omitted entries are invalid, prompting fresh legal challenges.
