History

Historical Context

Israel’s current war strategy echoes the resolve forged during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on 6 October and Israel, led by Prime Minister Golda Meir, mobilized over 100,000 troops to repel the offensive. The conflict spurred massive U.S. resupply, a UN-brokered cease-fire on 22 October, and set the stage for the 1978 Camp David Accords.
