History

Historical Context

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao’s May 2 2015 bout shattered boxing economics, pulling 4.6 million PPV buys and about $400 million in revenue via a joint HBO-Showtime broadcast. That record set a template for ultra-high-profile matchups, prompting later events to seek streaming partners and wealthy backers. The December 11 2026 Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua clash follows this legacy of blockbuster, globally-monetized fights.
