History

Historical Context

In March 2015 Saudi Arabia headed a nine-nation coalition that launched airstrikes against Houthi rebels after President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi asked for help, hitting Saada and killing over 200 fighters and 30 armored vehicles. The campaign also struck Saudi aviation, including Sanaa airport, a precedent for today’s missile and drone attacks on Abha and King Khalid airports, prompting tighter security.
