Summary

Galschiøt Installs Gold Trump

Danish artist Jens Galschiøt installed a gold-coated naked U.S. President Donald Trump statue in the European Parliament, Strasbourg.
The eight-foot piece, titled “The Orange Plague” and also “King of Injustice,” is covered in 23-karat gold leaf.
The statue depicts Trump naked, holding a golf club and scales, perched on a smaller man's shoulders.
Artist says the work protests Trump’s climate-policy stance and U.S. assault on the rules-based order.
Left-wing Danish MEP Per Clausen defended the exhibit, saying thin-skinned critics “have no place on the world stage.”

Summary

Quaestors Approve Exhibition

Quaestors granted permission for the exhibition under MEP-sponsored cultural-event rules.
Each MEP may sponsor up to two cultural events per parliamentary term.
The three-day display is held in the Winston Churchill building of the European Parliament.
Around 20,000 free 3D-printed miniatures were produced and distributed to visitors and staff.
The press service declined comment on reactions and confirmed the quaestors’ procedural role.

History

Historical Context

After the bronze Saddam Hussein statue was erected for his 65th birthday in April 2002, U.S. Marines of the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines used an M88 vehicle to topple the 16-foot monument on 9 April 2003, a scene broadcast worldwide and compared to the 1956 Stalin toppling in Hungary. The event inspired later provocative pieces, such as Jens Galschiøt’s gold-leaf Trump statue in the European Parliament.
