History

Historical Context

In April 2017, United Airlines forcibly removed passenger Dr David Dao from Flight 3411, sparking worldwide outrage and regulatory scrutiny. The incident prompted the US Department of Transportation to issue a 2018 rule requiring airlines to disclose passenger-rights policies, and United paid a $10 million settlement. Similarly, the October 2026 IndiGo Krabi-to-Delhi video, recorded by passenger Neeraj Priyanka Choudhary, exposed lax enforcement of safety-belt rules and the airline’s silence on social platforms. The precedent shows that viral passenger misconduct can force carriers like IndiGo to revise safety protocols and adopt transparent communication to avoid regulatory penalties.
