History

Historical Context

On 9 February 1996 the IRA detonated a truck bomb in London’s Docklands, killing two civilians and causing about £150 million in damage, ending its 17-month ceasefire. The attack spurred the Ministry of Defence to tighten security at military sites. Decades later, Latvian nationals breaching RAF Molesworth and a suspicious A1M vehicle triggered the MOD and US European Command to deploy barriers, patrols and counter-drone systems.
